XLVII : If I Enjoy Hypnosis So Much - Why Don't I Go to Hypnotherapy?
I mainly use hypnosis for either a power nap in order to get refreshed from fatigue, or to deal with stress, of which I get more than my fair share, or to get to sleep (the latter in the form of autohypnosis, does not always work).
These things can usually be had with hypnosis videos and with autohypnosis, either based on own exercises, or on exercises learned on some videos, or around memories of videos.
Now, if I had a hypnotherapist instead, what would be different?
I might have to pay - but that might not be the main issue.
I might get involved in a somewhat more personal relation to a hypnotherapist, and I don't mean full blown sex, I mean emotional ties, and this could lead to blocking out the relation I would need.
And, the hypnotherapist might just want to go beyond my own issues outlined above. And the problem is, she (I wouldn't want a male one) and I may have different views on things.
And while the videos I chose do not contain (or seem to contain) anything contrary to the faith, some sessions actually could.
If you can make regression into "previous lives" and these do not exist, why would regressions into earlier ages of this life not also be imaginary and give false memories?
And how deep I go, I can't go very deep on the Aron scale in cybers or in the areas where I lie down, if I did go too deep, this could with some people around simply be dangerous.

XLV Why Counting Down?
One could speculate, counting down is doing things backward, though, back when I thought hypnosis demonic, this was not one of my arguments.
There are two reasons which are in and of themselves not demonic.
First, entering the hypnotic state is scaling down attentions and tensions. And going to numbers that are fewer and fewer mirrors this.
The other is, whether you use hypnosis to get some relief from stress or fatigue, or you are trying a therapy to change your behaviour - or both combined - you will sooner or later have to try to do hypnosis with no external hypnotist, so called autohypnosis.
What does the counting downwards have to do with this?
There is one degree of confusion where you forget you were counting, and a somewhat lesser one, where you forget what number you were at ... and here it doesn't much matter which way you are counting. But at an even lesser one, you could be aware you are counting and aware where you are, and yet forget where you were supposed to stop. Counting from the total down to one helps with this.
Obviously, in the case of stress relief, the more confused you are (for the moments) the better, since the deeper hypnosis. But the confusion won't remain that deep, unless you do sth to get deeper or remain in trance, you will be gliding soon up from trance (sooner or later, depending on fatigue or prior habit), and this means, you will also be back at where you can do the counting.
In the case of hypnotic affirmations, it is obviously equally useful to start from the total number, if the number is anywhere important (like 21 times).
So, I'll stand against superstitious views (including my past own ones) of hypnosis as demonic, and consider it in and of itself as licit, provided the goal is licit.
The alternative would be to have a kind of rosary, as with the rosary prayer./HGL

Use the text as long as necessary, when you know it by heart, you can close the eyes when you feel like it - or the eyelids can, when they feel like it./HGL

XLIII A Hypno Memory
I was teased and even bullied in seventh or eighth grade, but not by everyone.
There was a girl who didn't bully.
But one day, she considered a certain tease would be OK. A hypnotic one.
Here "look at my finger, follow my finger with your eye, answer me without thinking" ...
She posed question after question, sometimes pushing me back to answering quickly without thinking, and to following the finger, not looking at her but her finger as it waved back and forth as a metronome.
And last question, "what is one times one" while suddenly showing two fingers, waving like a metronome.
I automatically answered "two" - and she triumphantly said "you were hypnotised."

XLII Hypnosis in the Inklings
I am not dealing with Charles Williams or Owen Barfield. I am dealing with the works of the two main ones, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien.
Narnia, by CSL:
- Wood between the worlds - Digory and Polly are obviously in a hypnotic state (just from being there) and have to struggle to get out;
- Digory pretended to feel hypnotised by the injunction at the bell and the hammer;
- Doctor Cornelius would have been very inept as a magician if he had not been able to cast as sleeping spell;
- The Lady of the Green Kirtle, for years, abuses hypnosis on Rilian, and for some minutes succeeds in doing so to the rescuers as well - until Puddleglum breaks the spell by making a scene;
- Tirian is a hunter who knows how to set his inner clock for waking up at a specific time - a species of self hypnosis.
Silmarillion and related, JRRT:
- Melian kind of hyponotises Elwe (Elu Thingol) for quite a long time;
- Luthien hypnotises guards, Beren, Sauron and Morgoth;
- Glaurung hypnotises - abusively - Turin, whose father may have been kind of hypnotised as well by Morgoth into seeing things a certain way.
LotR:
- Hobbits hypnotised by old man willow and by the barrow downs into lying down to sleep at the wrong moment;
- Tom Bombadil does a nice work of "refreshed after hypnosis" suggestions to wake them up.
It is fairly certain that they knew very well what hypnosis was, and perhaps someone of them or both, or another Inkling resorted to it./HGL
PS, forgot Legolas' self hypnosis allowing him to rest while awake, and obviously the druadan had a similar technique./HGL

XLI - Catholicism and Hypnosis
Is Hypnosis Evil? w/ Dr. Gerry Crete
26th of June 2021 | Pints With Aquinas

1:57 "if you feel safe with the person, it should be fine"
Thank you very much.
In other words, if I take hypnosis for relaxation, through videos with labels like "power nap", "fractionation for calmness" and things like that, and avoid "past life regression", "slave hypnosis" and anything that's either directly superstitious or demeaning of the own liberty, and also avoid erotic hypnosis setting out to be such, I should be safe.
Now, Gerry Crete is not a theologian, but a Sedevacantist - who obviously doesn't trust decisions from residents of the Vatican after 1958 - took the trouble to find out the first decree of the relevant dicasterium, and it was, twofold:
- hypnosis is a physical / natural means and trying to achieve natural results with it is (with due cautions) licit
- trying to achieve strictly supernatural things by hypnosis is however a horrid superstition.
In other words - a power nap or quitting smoking or speaking to people with more confidence : licit ends. And for these, hypnosis is licit means. Peeping into a supposed previous life in your supposed cycle of reincarnations - superstitious and illicit.
"I think if you are doing hypnosis by yourself, I would worry about that"
Not what the dicasterium said back in 1800's and somewhat interested in the sense that he's a t h e r a p i s t and therefore interested in getting people to them.
